Carole + Mark | Classic Downtown Detroit Engagement on Belle Isle
I feel like I have such a special connection to Carole and Mark and I had so much fun exploring Belle Isle with them for their engagement session! Last year, I had the honor of photographing Mark's daughter, Melissa's, wedding day and when Mark, Carole, and I met up this year to grab coffee and talk wedding photography, I learned exactly how Mark proposed.
The day after Melissa and Jeremy's wedding, the family had an open house, and since everyone was in town for his daughter's wedding, Mark planned a surprise proposal for Carole! His proposal came as a complete surprise to Carole, and everyone else at the open house, but after being together for 16 years, Carole of course said yes!
Carole and Mark knew that they wanted to hold their engagement session in Downtown Detroit and after kicking around a few different locations - because honestly there are so many amazing places to shoot in Detroit! - they decided on Belle Isle and The Royce Detroit! Belle Isle is really the best of all worlds, I think, because there is history, beautiful architectural details and buildings, indoor and outdoor locations, waterfront, gardens, and city views. What more could you ask for really?
Carole and Mark love to boat and explore new bars and restaurants together, so I thought their second location at The Royce Detroit was the perfect backdrop with its industrial, hip atmosphere and the floor to ceiling shelves of every wine you could probably ask for! Throughout the whole engagement session, Mark and Carole could not stop laughing, and they even brought along a bottle of champagne to enjoy on the waterfront! I love it when my couples feel like themselves and very relaxed in front of the camera and aren't afraid to get a little romantic and creative!
Carole and Mark, I had such a great time with you both at your engagement session and I cannot wait for your wedding day later this year! I know if it's anything like your engagement session that amazing / fun / beautiful things are in store!
