A Dark & Romantic Winter Wedding Shoot

at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial in Detroit, MI

Question: “Can a wedding photographer who prides herself on delivering classic and candid images in a timeless, joyful, and elegant style shoot a more dark & romantic wedding day?”

Answer: “Absolutely!!”

The style and aesthetic of your wedding day design (i.e. more of a moody, romantic design & feel OR more of a colorful, joyful design & feel), doesn’t change how I approach my lighting, composition, or editing of wedding day images! No matter the type of flowers you choose, the time of year your wedding takes place, or the venue you book, my goal as a wedding photographer is to deliver a consistent photography style where your photographs will always feel timeless, joyful, elegant, and classic no matter the setting or colors!

Now, is there a difference between my classic, candid, and timeless photography style and say a photographer who calls themselves moody, dark, and non-traditional? 1000% A self described dark and moody photographer will likely have a much darker overall image and approach to lighting vs. my lighting style where I strive to have interesting artistic contrast of highlights & shadows, but overall an evenly lit scene. A dark & moody photographer will also likely edit their photos in a way where all the colors feel slightly dark and desaturated vs. my classic, timeless style where I aim to edit your photos with true-to-life colors that feel fresh and vibrant and not dull or muted.

Just like everything in life, everyone has their preference! My CCP Couples aren’t looking for moody wedding images, but instead what classic & candid photos that will stand the test of time and won’t look trendy in a few years! They want their images to be a bit more evenly lit and to feel joyful as their wedding day will be one of the happiest days of their life!
