Natural, Lush Greenery Wedding in Davisburg, MI: Emily + Taelor

When I arrived at the Ellis Barn for Emily and Taelor's wedding day, dark stormy clouds marched overhead and the forecast called for lots of rain. Emily and Taelor are the type of couple, however, who can do just about anything together and have a good time whether rain or shine - so a little rain? Eh. No biggie! Their attitudes were so upbeat on the morning of the wedding that I KNEW the day was going to be so much fun to photograph!

Emily and Taelor really enjoy being creative and I loved all of the personal details that they incorporated into their wedding day to showcase their personalities. Emily and Taelor also placed a high importance on their wedding photography and were game for any of my requests! I think that because Emily and Taelor were able to have an engagement session with me last fall, it played a vital role in how smoothly all of their wedding day portraits went!

Luckily enough every time we needed to be outside for photos we had beautiful overcast skies and not a single drop of rain! As I walked with Emily and Taelor around the property, there were many tender moments between them. I love that I could catch them just being themselves and just being in love and that they felt comfortable enough to reveal these moments to me! Everything from Taelor leaning down to give Emily a kiss on her shoulder to Emily pulling Taelor into her for a big hug and then a shared laugh together was just so adorable! They also were able to give me some extra portrait time right at sunset and the sky was beyond gorgeous for these two!

Emily and Taelor - I want to thank you again for having me along on your wedding day as your photographer! I feel so honored to have been the one to capture these memories for you and your family. I think the best part of my job is the couples that I have the privilege to work! You both are not only loving and funny, but are also one of those couples whose friendship I cherish! I wish you both happiness, hope, and a lifetime of adventures together!

Love,

Courtney

I loved the forest inspired, rustic look of Emily and Taelor's wedding details!

Ok guys, how cool are these custom wedding favors?! These cute (and very detailed) pins were designed and made by the groom!

Taelor prepared for the day with his closest friends and groomsmen who made sure to send him off into marriage with a toast of Fireball!

Emily - you are seriously such a beautiful bride and thank you for trusting me when I suggested you get dressed in the hallway! I'm always looking for the best lighting and the huge barn doors provided really amazing light as Emily stepped into her dress!

Plus - a double bonus - the accent wall was the same shade of green as their wedding colors. How perfect, right?!

Emily's dress was gorgeous and I especially loved the soft, off-the-shoulder sleeves which were so delicate and feminine!

One element of the day that they were particularly excited about was when they would exchange letters shortly before the ceremony.

I couldn't read their words to each other, but based on the tears, smiles, and overall body language, I'd say they were really sweet and special thoughts!

Emily did share with me that Taelor has a lucky four leaf clover which he gave to her in the letter . . . If I were to guess I'd say Taelor mentioned something about not needing luck anymore now that he had Emily . . . Taelor's just romantic like that! :)

I lovelovelove these images of Emily! She read her letter and finished getting ready in what used to be a horse stall that the venue half-converted into a bridal dressing room. Can you believe this is a horse stall!? I loved being able to bring in the light to create this really dramatic, timeless portrait of the bride!

Emily and Taelor decided to see each other for the first time as she walked down the aisle, but Emily shared a first look with her father instead! When a dad sees his little girl all dressed up for her wedding day, it is always a precious and emotional moment for the family.

Taelor's niece was such a cute flower girl and totally executed her petal throwing duties in style! Instead of throwing them as she walked up the aisle, she walked about half-way and then started throwing the petals all in one spot! Too cute!

And then it was time for Emily to make her entrance!

I just love Emily and Taelor's expressions in this moment. Right as Emily places the ring on Taelor's finger she is all smiles and he is overcome with emotion!

Since there was nothing but amazing overcast skies, we headed outside for portraits!

Monochromatic colors are all the colors (tints, tones, and shades) of one single hue. I love that Emily let her bridesmaids pick their own dresses within the rustic green shade! The earthy hues and rustic location set the stage for a seriously stunning celebration!

I love the simple elegance of Emily's bouquet with the white roses, baby's breath, ferns, and assorted whites and green stems!

You could tell that all of Emily and Taelor's reception decor was placed and created with loving care! Between the escort card table of family photos to the gold accents on the tables and to the mix of all the fresh flowers and greenery, the room was stunning!

There was a slight hint of industrial with this beautiful light bulb chandelier hanging over the head table.

As the night progressed, I was so happy that Emily and Taelor scheduled in some extra portrait time right at sunset! The sky was just gorgeous and the light was soft, dreamy, and golden!

I feel like I can see all the worry over the wedding and the rush of the day just melt away in these moments where Emily and Taelor were able to step away and have this time to unwind together.

I love working with brides who think their man is the hottest guy on the planet!

I often caught Taelor just looking at Emily, almost in amazement at how extremely loving and caring she is as a person.

The sky was totally on Emily and Taelor's side and gave them a masterpiece!!

So pretty!

As the sun went down, I had Emily and Taelor help me out with one last creative shot of the night! Utilizing my creativity and technical know-how, we were able to pull off this epic backlit portrait of them standing in front of the venue! The rim light is so dramatic and fun!
